Owner Rodney Smith was involved in air conditioning installation when it was a new concept for vehicles in New Zealand. Our technicians are skilled in system design, manufacture and installation required to add or reinstate air-conditioning and/or heating to any vehicle. We have a well-equipped workshop with engineering bay and specialised tools.
We are dash removal specialists and have worked on the full range of vehicles from classics right up to the latest model prestige cars.
Inside the dash we build heater and evaporator boxes, and fit ducting, vents and controls stylishly to the outside of the dash, including decals. We build compressor, alternator and power steering mounts as required. We can supply standard, polished or chromed compressors, fabricate all AC hoses; including in stainless braid if desired; condensers and electrics to suit.
Expertise in all types of vehicles
To show our scope, we have recently worked on a 1966 Chevrolet Impala, a Lamborghini Countach replica and a 1993 Holden Berlina.
In the past we have fitted air-conditioning into a Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 and an FJ45, a GMC pickup and an HQ Commodore that left our workshop to compete in the Paris to Dakar race. We have re-instated AC in a 1965 Ford Mustang, and many more examples. Some of these vehicles are pictured. We have completely rewired a 1966 Chrysler Charger and the GMC pickup.

In addition to classics and muscle cars, we also design and install air-conditioning for heavy equipment and cranes, mobility vans and lawn mowers with cabs. Recently this includes a pair of late model Mercedes Sprinter vans for rear aircon, a late model Ford Focus, imported without aircon and a 2000 Isuzu F Series.
We ensure vehicles have sufficient engine cooling capacity once the extra heat load of aircon is introduced. Our work may involve fashioning cowling to direct air flow over condensers and radiators and fitting additional cooling fans if required.
We strive as much as possible to make the AC installation look like it’s meant to be there. Your vehicle will be much more comfortable and safe to drive once it leaves our workshop. We are heating specialists too and our work keeps condensation off your windows and keeps you nice and warm in winter.
